A habit that can change your Life — Daily Journal

A human mind is full of clutter. It keeps behaving like a violent sea which has waves gushing all around. It requires some direction to flow. If you don’t draw the lines, your mind will be dragged randomly irrespective of your desires.

In this blog, we will discuss how keeping a daily journal can clear your mind for the biggest decisions of your life. After all, a clear mind is the most important aspect of all your decisions.

My close friends often ask me, “Pritesh, how do you have such a clear stance whenever it comes to some issue or dilemma?”

It is really easy. I have been journaling daily since I was in 3rd standard. I have filled diaries after diaries with my worthless and kiddish scribblings. I used to write whatever I felt and whatever was satisfying. I destroyed more than fifteen full-sized diaries till date. I am not kidding.

So what is inside those diaries? Umm... As such nothing.

Daily journaling need not be pressure or it should not go as per some fixed set of rules. We have many things with undue rules. Let’s not turn daily-journals into the same. I write about different issues, my to-do lists, my goals, my plans and whatever puts me in some dilemma. I have taken the strongest decisions of my life within 15 minutes of journaling. This is the power of writing.

Being a writer, my diary plays the most important role now. I take all the key points on the paper. Even for this post which you are reading right now, I had taken some points. This is how we tend to think in the right direction. Most of the writers follow this pattern. Every writer notes down some key points. This is the reason writers tend to have the most rational thoughts. Ask them anything, they might have already given it a thought.

You really need to think on paper before you actually act.

It has gone to the limit that I keep a pocket diary along with me. Whenever I get bored in lectures, I am constantly bombarded with the most productive ideas.

What if I ignore those ideas and try to concentrate on my lectures? Those ideas won’t turn into reality, ever. I definitely don’t want that to happen.

What if I only keep thinking about those ideas and ignore my lectures? That would be even more damaging as I would not understand anything in my lectures.

That made me follow a path that lies in between these two extreme things. I maintain a pocket diary. I just write the keywords of those ideas and quickly put it inside my pocket. This ensures that I won’t forget about what I wrote in my diary and secondly, I can concentrate on my lectures with a peace of mind. Later on, I can think about implementing my thoughts.

Writing stuff on paper makes you remember it longer and take it more seriously.

Why would anyone write something unless he/she is serious about it? This is how your goals should be — Written.

Let’s say if you are writing about your tomorrow’s goal. You will write all the things you want to do. It will psychologically impact your mind and force you to do those things. It would make you restless if you don’t follow those instructions written in your journal. I’ll cover this topic of procrastination in my next blog.

But this is how it works. You simply cannot rest peacefully ignoring your goals. Now, look at the bigger picture. Do you think it will let you settle down for bigger goals if it is not allowing you to be peaceful for daily goals?

People even write about their experiences and life lessons. Even that can be helpful for pondering at your own life. Write about your past, pen down about your future and goals. Just write. Write anything.

Conclusion:

Daily journaling helps to a vast extent for making better decisions, take quick biases and implement ideas in a better way. Quick notes make things clearer and make you confident.

It is not necessary to go in a particular way. Just scribble something that you feel. Over time, you will find your own improved version.
